A whole realm of green hills, trees and rocks, resting on the open pages of a great book at dusk

Hearthmakers

Light the fire. Raise a home.

A voxel game made as a tribute and homage to Stonehearth. Play one pioneer, raise a home in a realm of your own and build it with friends, right in your browser.

v0.0.1 · in development · The Gearfinder Studios

About the game

Every home begins with a fire. In Hearthmakers each player is one pioneer, moved by point and click, who lights a fire in a realm of their own and raises a home around it: gathering, digging, crafting and building, block by block.

The world is a great open book. Realms live on a server, on its pages, beside public places that everyone shares. Invite friends in, meet others out in the world, form a party and trade what you have made. Turning to another world turns the page.

What you do

  • 44 doors and windows to set into your walls
  • Copy, paste, turn and mirror whole parts
  • Set a blueprint in your realm and it rises block by block

  • Colonists take tasks, patrol, tend farms and wear the gear you give them
  • A storage for the whole realm
  • They grow with their work
The Inventory, with the character, the bag and what is worn

Fight and grow

  • Entlings and little stone golems roam the realms: click to fight
  • Weapons and armor that show on your pioneer
  • Experience and levels; if you fall, you rise again at home
The server portal, listing the characters on the account

Together

  • Chat with channels, commands and @ pings
  • Parties that last across sessions
  • Trades, with both offers side by side
  • Friends, friend requests and blocks
  • A portal for your characters, realms and blueprints

Deep snow, blue cliffs and golden trees. Keep close to the fire.

Made here

Hearthmakers started out on Stonehearth’s art, as placeholders. That migration is finished: the models, icons, sounds, cursors and windows you see are now the game’s own, made with tools built for it, while Stonehearth stays where it belongs, as the inspiration.

44doors and windows
30building patterns
22hairstyles
12pioneer animations
16hair colours
13skin tones
18eye colours
12cloth dyes

Models

Trees, rocks, crops, benches, tools, weapons, armor and the pioneers themselves: voxel models built by recipes, in one palette and one style, on the game’s own skeletons.

Sounds

Axes, picks, hoes, buttons and the chat’s ping, synthesized from maths with no recording behind them.

Interface

Every board, sign and sheet of parchment is painted by code. Even this page: the panels around this text come from the game’s own painter.

A look around

Where to play

In the browser

Nothing to install. Open the game, make an account and play.

On Discord

Hearthmakers also runs as a Discord Activity, with sign-in through Discord for members of our server.

On touch screens

Every feature also works by touch, on phones and tablets in landscape.

What comes next

Plans, not promises. Hearthmakers is in development, and this is where it is heading:

More materials

Building materials beyond stone, dirt, wood and brick.

Tiers of gear

Tools and items in tiers of other materials.

Dungeons

Dungeon-like content for the public places.

Questions

Is the game finished?

No. Hearthmakers is at version 0.0.1 and changes often. The Discord is the place to follow it.

Is this Stonehearth?

No. It is a free, fan-made tribute and homage to Stonehearth, with its own art, made by The Gearfinder Studios. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the makers of Stonehearth.

Do I need an account?

Yes: your characters and realms are kept on the server. You sign in with a username and password or, in the Discord Activity, with Discord.

What does it run on?

A modern browser on a computer, or a phone or tablet held in landscape.

Thanks

To Riot and Radiant, the true sources of inspiration.

Stonehearth taught us that a home begins with a fire and a few friends around it. Thank you for that world, still alight in every block of this game.
